A very delicate lady slept in a large expensive bed. Red satin sheets surrounded her. Her long blonde hair was sprawled out over her bed. Her small waist moved as she took in air. Bright blue eyes closed, eyeballs moved under the lids as she dreamt. She was beautiful and the second most Royal Hylian in Hyrule. She was the Princess Zelda.
Morning had been hectic for the girl. A threat that an attacker would be sent upon her had spread out. The King had confirmed it a rumor, but the Princess had more protection by her guards than she ever did in her life. Most of her kingdom loved her; she would give her life to protect her people.

A shadow crept along the walls of the castle, holding a dagger in hand. It slipped past the guards with ease, and up to the princess' window, crouched on the windowsill like a tiger ready to pounce. The shadow covered up the potential victim, but the dagger hesitated, then dropped out of his hand, falling to the floor with a clatter.
Knowing that the clatter would wake up anyone, he slipped into the shadows. What good that would do, he didn't know, but it was worth a try. He wasn't wearing a hood and cloak this time, so he was out in the open if someone spotted him. Xaro did not move; he was as still as a statue.
Well, he was going to get a beating tonight...

As the dagger fell to the floor and caused a loud clatter, the Princess bolted up in her bed. She pressed a frail hand to her chest and panted heavily. A nightmare followed by a loud noise, was not a good way the Princess liked to be awoken. When calmed down she looked over her bed and saw the dagger.
Gasping, the Princess bent over to pick up the dagger. It was a very expletive knife, in great detail. It was sharp enough for one piercing to penetrate the skin. The perfect dagger to kill Royalty with; not even a sound would escape the mouth of the Princess if she would have been stabbed with it.
Searching the room with her eyes, the Princess was afraid to stand. Sighing, she turned, but a glimpse of a shiny object caught her eye.
A yelp came from the Princess's lips, "Who are you?"

The response was low, and was almost commanding, "Name's Xero Nightshade. I was hoping to meet you someday, but not under these circumstances. This is not how I would've liked my first meeting to have been."
He stepped out of the shadows, to be illuminated in the light. The moonlight made his ivory-white skin look almost ghostly, but the scarlet eyes added depth, as well as the purple hair, to the visage. The deep violet markings on his face also added to it. In short, he looked like a god, unnaturally handsome and well-built. What was expressed on his face was mixed feelings, though. Was it about the situation or the meeting? The shiny thing was actually a battle harness, snugly fit on his body. On his exposed arms were whip welts and bite marks.
"I did not want to do this."

The Princess gaped when she saw his body in the moonlight. She couldn't help seeing him as attractive, although, he was her assassin. Firmly she pulled her satin red blanket over her body; attempting to hide her exposed arms, she was only wearing a white nightgown.
"You don't have to do this," the Princess muttered forcefully. Her head felt dizzy and the scream she wanted to release wouldn’t fall from her mouth. She felt almost ready to faint.

"I'm not going to."
Xaro's ears tilted up when she had said that. He heard her loud and clear, although to others, it would just be mumbling. The hylian sat on the windowsill, keeping his balance perfectly level on it. He felt a mental spike shoot up into his brain, but he ignored it. Well, ignored it the best he could.
"No matter how many times my Mistress beats me, even to the point of near-death, I will not raise that dagger. That's just against my moral values."

Mistress. The Princess wondered who the mistress was. She obviously wanted to kill the Princess and maybe her father. Xaro may seem like a nice person now, but to the Princess he still seemed to be a threat. She jumped more under her covers. Calling the guards seemed right, but the Princess wanted to find more out about her assassin.
"Xaro…" the words flowed through the Princess's mouth dangerously. "Who sent you here?"

"Dreadwing the Bloodthirsty."
He said the name with so much malice, so much poisonous contempt, that it was like a curse of death on his thin lips. Xaro then showed the Princess his Mistress' symbol on both of his arms. It was an evilly grinning vampire bat head, with blood dripping off the fangs and wings behind the head. Above it and below it were the continuation of the whip welts and bite marks, as if the engravings themselves were unable to be touched.
"She resides in the Shadow Temple."

Her curious blue eyes cringed at the bat markings. The dread in his voice as he spoke of his mistress caused the Princess to understand his hatred. He seemed unwilling to do his duty of… dismembering her.
"Do you mind if I get my robe?" Zelda questioned, holding the sheets closer to her chest. She was embarrassed to have man in her corridors. If Impa or her father found out she would be punished to reading ancient Hylian language and a long talk about her royal duty to be married off to a prince.
Zelda studied the boys stance, "Do you want to kill me?"

"No, I don't. Go get your robe."
He stood back inside the room and covered his eyes, "I'm not looking." To show that he meant it, he turned to face the wall, but still kept an ear on Zelda. Xaro didn't even go to get the dagger. He loathed that evil-looking dagger...and wouldn't mind killing his Mistress with it. If she doesn't kill him first...
"What are you going to do with me?"

The Princess walked over to her large oak closet doors; opening them, she pulled out her white robe. Pulling it on over her silky white nightgown, she turned back around to face Xaro.
"You may look now," Zelda announced idly. She had no idea what to do with Xaro; he seemed reliant. However, he held a dagger over her body when she was sleeping. Whether he killed her or not, he still attempted somewhat.
"What am I going to do with you?" The Princess repeated to herself. She placed her hands in front of her, folded. "What do you think I will do with you?"

He turned around and uncovered his eyes quickly. His scarlet gaze seemed to dig through her blue ones, and although they were piercing, behind them, they were forlorn and yearning for freedom from his nightmare. Xaro responded, "Toss me in the dungeon and wait for me to rot? Execute me where I stand? Turn me in to my Mistress so I can recieve the body chains again? Let the king know that there's a huge evil in the temple, have him kill me, then go after it? Or is it something else?"
He was naming all the horrible things, but it could've been really really simple. Knowing royalty, nothing is simple. Government is SO screwed up...

[Switching to First POV for a second, I accidentally started writing in first, continue on from third POV after this if you would like]
Everything he said would happen if I spoke of this. He didn't commit and if he really wanted to he would have when I was sleeping. I could just send him on a way and warn my father that a demon came in my room at night. My Kingdom would punish this man in the worst ways.
"You will leave now," I informed him venomously. "Leave now."

A low, vicious, commanding, but screechy voice answered for him, but it didn't come from him, "Oh, he will leave. He most certainly will, precious."
The shadow of a creature with shoulder spikes and a vampire bat head shot up from Xaro's own shadow, the eyes suddenly flickering to life. One was a dull red, while the other was a bright red. The red glow inside the mouth made a silhouette of the teeth, which were large. The fangs especially. The two-dimensional shadow peeled off the wall and became three-dimension, the shoulder spikes moving. Those were wings, not spikes, and specifically, clawed hands on wing-arms! She seemed to smirk while draping those huge wings around Xaro's suddenly stone-still form.
"The body chains are a good idea, but I prefer something more...mental." When she said that, she hooked a horrific device onto his face. It looked like a bear trap. "This Inverse Mouth-Trap will definitely get you thinking about your next job instead of sabotaging my plans."
The hylian's frightened gaze pleaded for help, but the creature started to back away into the wall, "Maybe we'll assassinate you another night, Princess."
She emitted a chilling snicker, then fully phased into the wall, the shadow disappearing. She took Xaro with her.

The Princess stayed in place; shocked. Staring at the wall where Xaro had disappeared. Taking a deep breath she took a step forward into her room. The nightmare played before her eyes; brought the rainy salt droplets into her pupils.
"Guards! Guards!" Zelda exclaimed running out her doorway. She rushed into the halls and saw a few guards running in her direction. "Guards! Go check on my father!"
One guard stayed by the Princess's side and the others did as she commanded. The Princess rushed down the hallway after them; not waiting to see if her father was all right. She heard a shriek from a nursemaid. The guard beside the Princess took off into a spring, allowing with the Princess.
Upon reaching the room, The Princess fell into a faint. Her father had a sword in his chest. Crimson blood spilled on the blankets and his hand dangled off the bed. A few guards rushed around the castle to search for the demon who could have done this.
