Dark played the Song of Storms on his black ocarina. He didn't remember exactly where he'd learned the song from. It was probably one of the many things he had gleaned from Link.
He waited patiently. Ilia would be there soon. He had to leave the entrance open for her. The bottom of a well felt like a silly place to meet, but it was safe from Ganondorf, or so Dark hoped.

Her eyes closed. She looked down into the well, listening to the music. She smiled, whistling along until he finished. She prepared herself, opened her eyes.
"Catch me, Darkie-Chan!"
She yelled down to him, looking back to see a worried villager. She waved and jumped down, into the darkness of the well. It was like her enemy, darkness, yet she loved one of darkness.

Dark muttered a curse as he scrambled to put his ocarina away. He bolted to the spot where the entrance of the well could be seen above. Fortunately Ilia had given him some time to get there. He planted his feet and watched her descend, catching her easily in his arms.
"You're late."
There was no bitterness or anger in his voice when he said it, and he continued to hold her there.

She almost squealed, but the fall knocked the breath from her. She felt dizzy, gasping as he caught her. She rested her body limply in his arms, relaxing. "Thanks.."

Dark nodded, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. He didn't bother putting Ilia down. Instead, he carried her farther back into the cavern to a mossy spot he'd picked out. He continued to hold her there, waiting until she felt better.
